Meet Morgan
House Majority Leader Morgan Griffith has been a member of the Virginia House of Delegates since 1994. He represents the 8th District, which is comprised of the City of Salem and portions of Roanoke County.
A graduate of Salem's Andrew Lewis High School, Morgan is an honors graduate of Emory & Henry College. After completing his studies at Washington and Lee University School of Law, Morgan returned to the Roanoke area to practice law. Today, he is a partner in Albo and Oblon, one of Virginia's fastest growing law firms with offices in many areas of the Commonwealth.
One of the most influential members of the Virginia General Assembly, Morgan's colleagues elected him House Majority Leader in 2000. He is the first Republican in Virginia history to hold that position. He is a member of the House Courts of Justice and Militia, Police and Public Safety Committees, and serves as Vice Chairman of the Rules Committee. He is also a member of the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission and serves as Chairman of the Virginia Freedom of Information Advisory Council.
In Richmond, Morgan has been one of the General Assembly's most effective members, writing and passing landmark legislation that keeps Virginians safer from violent crime, holds down taxes, protects our constitutional freedoms, and makes Virginia the best place to live, work, run a business and raise a family. Morgan has led the fight to crack down on sexual offenders who prey on children, established Virginia's cable television competition laws to hold down rates for consumers, stood up to big spenders in Richmond who have tried to raise taxes, and defended your Second Amendment rights, earning him "A" ratings from the National Rifle Association for every term he has served in office.
Morgan is also committed to giving back to the community and the Commonwealth. He is a member of his local bar association, and serves on the Board of Visitors for Emory & Henry College and on the Board of Trustees of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation. Morgan has previously served on the Board of Directors of Easter Seals Virginia. He is also a past member of his local Lions Club, Ruritan, and Boy Scouts Council.
Morgan is married to Hilary Davis Griffith, an area prosecutor. They and their three children attend Fellowship Community Church.
