Facebook Pitches Its Political Benefits By J.P. Freire

How to create a group:

  • Log into Facebook
  • Click on "applications" on the bottom left corner of the screen
  • A list will come up, click on "groups" in the list.
  • A new page will open and on the top right corner an oval button says "create a new group" click on that button.
  • The first step in creating a group is the general information: such as the name, type of group, contact information etc. The description of the group does not have to be particularly long, and it is perfectly acceptable to leave some of the boxes blank, most groups do. After you have filled in all of the information, click "create group."
  • After you create the group you will be able to add a picture from your computer. This is not required, but a picture helps to group's exposure by causing more people to click on it.
  • To upload a photo onto the group, it must be stored in your computer. Click "browse" next to the box for the file name of the picture. This will cause a file to pop up on your screen. Highlight the folder that your picture is stored in and then click "open." After that the file name will be in the box; all you have to do is click "upload image."
  • This will take you to a new page where you can select people from your friends list that you would like to invite to the group; once you invite your friends and they join then their friends will join and the group, causing it to grow surprisingly fast and gain more exposure. Once the group is created it can be edited by clicking on the group and then clicking "edit group" under the group's picture.

 Creating an event

  • Once you are logged into Facebook, click on the "applications" button on the lower left-hand corner.
  • Click on events. This will take you to a new page; there will be an oval shaped button that says "create new event" click on this button.
  • This will take you to the event page where you insert all of the event's information. It is not required that all of the boxes be filled in, but the more information that is provided (i.e. time, location etc.) the more people will come to the actual event. After all of the information is added, click "create event."
  • After you create the event you will be able to add a picture from your computer. This is not required, but a picture helps to event's exposure by causing more people to click on it. to upload a photo onto the event, it must be stored in your computer. Click "browse" next to the box for the file name of the picture. This will cause a file to pop up on your screen. Highlight the folder that your picture is stored in and then click "open." After that the file name will be in the box; all you have to do is click "upload image."
  • After the image is uploaded, you will be able to invite people to join the event. Just like a group, the more people that you invite to an event will allow for more people to be invited by them and so on.
  • Like groups, events can be edited at any time.
  • Once someone that you invited, or anyone else, "RSVP's" to an event, Facebook will put the event on their calendar and remind them the day of the event.
