Official Call for a Mass Meeting of the Halifax Republican Party
OFFICIAL CALL
Mass Meeting
of the Halifax County Republican Committee
of the Republican Party of Virginia
As Chairman of the Halifax County Republican Committee of the Republican Party, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Pat Barksdale, do hereby issue this call for a Mass Meeting to be held at the World of Sports (private dining room) 2030 Bill Tuck Hwy South Boston, Virginia on March 18th, 2010,
starting with registration at 6:00 p.m. and meeting to began promptly at 7:00 p.m.for the following purposes:
Electing a Unit Chairman and members of the Halifax County Republican Unit Committee.
Electing up to 140 Delegates and 140 Alternates to the Fifth Congressional District Republican
Convention, to be held on Saturday, May 1st, 2010 at Hampden -Sydney College,John's Auditorium, 80 College Road, Hampden-Sydney, Virginia 23943 beginning at 11:00 a.m. with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. With the purpose of electing a Congressional District Chairman. Each unit is entitled to one (1) Delegate Vote per 500 Republican votes for Governor and President at their last election, so that the Halifax County Republican Committee is entitled to 28 Delegate Votes; and for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the mass meeting.
Qualifications for Participation
All legal and qualified voters under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions, or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.
In addition to the foregoing, to be in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, unless otherwise stipulated by the appropriate Official Committee, a person otherwise qualified hereunder shall not have participated in Virginia in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party after March 1, 2004, or in the last five years, whichever is more recent.
A single exception to this shall be approved for a voter that renounces affiliation with any other party in writing, and who expresses in writing that he/she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends, at the time of the writing, to support the nominees of the Republican Party in the future. Any voter that utilizes the foregoing exception, and thereafter participates in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party, shall not have the benefit of the exception thereafter.
Filing Requirements
Candidates for the election as a delegate or alternate delegates to the District Convention at said mass meeting shall file a written statement on an official filing form including their name, address and phone number by mail or in person to Pat Barksdale, at 7010 Melon Road, Sutherlin, Virginia 24594 which must be received not later than 8PM, Thursday, March 11, 2010.
Any person desiring to run for Unit Chairman of the Halifax County Republican Committee shall send an official pre-file form including their name, address and phone number by mail or in person to Pat Barksdale, at 7010 Melon Road, Sutherlin, Virginia 24594 which must be received not later than 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 11, 2010. Postmarks do not govern.
Official filing forms will be available for download at www.rpv.org.
Voluntary Fee
A voluntary fee of $5 is requested to participate in this mass meeting. A mandatory fee of $10.00 is required of each Delegate and Alternate to the Fifth Congressional District Republican Convention Fees are requested to be paid by check, payable to the Halifax County Republican Committee, at the time of filing for election as a Delegate or Alternate or attendance at the mass meeting.
