Perriello: VOTING FOR MALAISE

New Ad Claims he's fighting for jobs, but his voting record says otherwise

-Freshman Democrat votes with Nancy Pelosi 90% of the time-

In Tom Perriello's new ad, he claims he's working hard for jobs. But a look at his voting record shows he's voted with Nancy Pelosi to destroy jobs 90 percent of the time.

PERRIELLO VOTED FOR CAP-AND-TRADE BILL

WHICH WILL KILL JOBS IN VIRGINIA AND RAISE UTILITY RATES FOR FAMILIES

Rep. Perriello Voted For Obama's And Pelosi's National Energy Tax. (H.R. 2454, Roll Call Vote #477: Passed 219-212: R 8-168; D 211-44, 6/26/09)

Virginians Could Lose Up To 56,000 Jobs Under Cap And Trade. "By 2030, as emission reduction targets tighten and other W/M provisions phase out, Virginia jobs decline by 41,400 under the low cost case and by 56,400 under the high cost case (Figure 2). The primary cause of job losses is lower industrial output due to higher energy prices, the high cost of complying with required emissions cuts, and greater competition from overseas manufacturers with lower energy costs." (Press Release, "Economic Impact On The State From The Waxman-Markey Bill, H.R. 2454 Proposed Legislation To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions - Virginia," National Association Of Manufacturers, 2009)

High Energy Costs Felt Especially By Virginia's Low Income Families. "The impacts of W/M will be felt especially by the poor, who spend a greater share of their income on energy and other goods than other income brackets. By 2030, higher energy prices mean that low income families in Virginia (with average incomes of $14,349) will spend between 18.3% and 19.2% of their income on energy under W/M compared to a projected 16.4% without W/M. Others on fixed incomes such as the elderly will also suffer disproportionately."  (Press Release, "Economic Impact On The State From The Waxman-Markey Bill, H.R. 2454 Proposed Legislation To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions - Virginia," National Association Of Manufacturers, 2009)

"Higher Energy Prices Would Have Ripple Impacts" In Virginia. "Higher energy prices would have ripple impacts on prices throughout the economy and would impose a financial cost on households. Virginia would see disposable household income reduced by $103 to $235 per year by 2020 and $608 to $1,096 by 2030."(Press Release, "Economic Impact On The State From The Waxman-Markey Bill, H.R. 2454 Proposed Legislation To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions - Virginia," National Association Of Manufacturers, 2009)

Two Of Virginia's Major Industries Will Suffer Dramatic Reductions. "Virginia's major economic sectors will be affected by emission caps (Figure 5).4 The current two largest sectors, chemical manufacturing and food product manufacturing, show decreases in output of 6.9% to 7.5% and 1.9% to 2.1%, respectively in 2030. All manufacturing sectors will suffer output losses of between 4.5% and 5.2% by 2030..." (Press Release, "Economic Impact On The State From The Waxman-Markey Bill, H.R. 2454 Proposed Legislation To Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions - Virginia," National Association Of Manufacturers, 2009)

Virginia Owner Of Medical Supply Distributor Says Medical Device Tax Will Be Passed On To Him, Eventually Costing Industry Jobs. "The health-care reform bill signed by President Obama last week brings with it new excise taxes on the medical device and pharmaceutical industries. ... Wayne Sale, the owner of a Henrico-based medical supply distributor Health First who heads up a national trade group that opposes the tax, says he expects manufacturers to pass the cost to him. ‘It directly affects me because my manufacturers have to take it on to the bottom line,' said Sale. ‘Now they will sell me what they sell for $25 for $28 to make up the difference.' ... Sale thinks the tax will eventually cost his industry jobs. He does not expect an increase in customers who qualify fo r Medicare and Medicaid to offset increased costs created by the tax." Virginia Small Business Owner Says Health Care Bill "Detrimental To The Incentive To Grow And Provide Jobs For People." "Karch, for example, said 95 percent of the staff at Home Instead Senior Care work part time, but he technically has more than 50 full-time equivalent employees. He said he doesn't know if that means he has to provide health insurance for all his employees or just those who work full time. If part-timers are included, he said he'd either have to shut down or raise his rates. ‘As a small business owner, I definitely feel this legislation is detrimental to the incentive to grow and provide jobs for people, especially people that, for a variety of reasons, can only work part time,' Karch said." "Norfolk Southern Corp. has announced it will pay about $27 million more in expenses for the first quarter of the year as a result of federal health care legislation signed last month. ‘Under the new legislation, to the extent the corporation's future health-care drug expenses are reimbursed under the Medicare Part D retiree drug subsidy program, the reimbursed expenses will no longer be tax deductible after 2012,' the company stated in a filing Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission." (Robert McCabe, "Norfolk Southern To Pay $27M More After Health Care Bill," The Virginian-Pilot, 4/8/10)

Virginia Will Spend $340,000 Of Stimulus Funds To Repair A Bridge That Sees Just 60 Crossings A Day. "On an average day, 20 cars rumble over the tiny Rock Creek Bridge and onto the gravel road in this rural county west of Richmond. . .  Five cars passed over the 30-foot bridge during a two-hour period one recent afternoon. Two residents of Rock Creek Road said they hadn't realized the bridge was in disrepair and were not sure that was the best use of the estimated $340,000 repair cost." (Jennifer Haberkorn, "Rural bridges First In Line For Stimulus Funds," The Washington Times, 5/10/10)
