Contact:  Garren Shipley  804-780-0111

RPV Chairman Pat Mullins announced the appointment of two new staff members on Friday.

Parker Sims, of Washington, D.C., will serve as the party's new Finance Director. Sims most recently served as Deputy Director of Fundraising and Logistics for Governor Bob McDonnell's Inaugural Committee and as a Regional Finance Director on the McDonnell for Governor campaign.

"Working with Bob McDonnell's campaign was one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional career," Sims said. "I look forward to keeping our forward momentum rolling as a part of the team at RPV."

Sims also spent two years with the 2008 Presidential campaign of U.S. Senator John McCain in various capacities, including serving as a Regional Finance Director. He is a 2005 graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science.

J. Garren Shipley, of Strasburg, Va., will serve as the party's Director of Communications. Shipley served as the Northern Virginia Daily's politics reporter from 2005-2010. He was previously the head of the paper's Winchester bureau.

"Sitting in the cheap seats watching the game has been a great experience," Shipley said. "But the invitation to join RPV  was the only thing that could ever top it. Being asked to suit up and take the field is a dream come true for any political junkie."

Shipley is a native of Johnson City, Tenn., and a 2000 graduate of East Tennessee State University. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications.

"We're pleased to add these two outstanding professionals to our Republican team," Mullins said. "Parker brings a wealth of fund raising success to our ranks, while Garren adds more than a decade of insight into newsrooms of all stripes."

"Both are welcome additions to the Republican Party of Virginia and will be instrumental in supporting our united Republican team to keep taxes low, reduce burdensome regulation and grow Virginia's economy," he said.
