Official Call for a Mass Meeting of the Henry Republican Party

LEGAL NOTICE

Call for a Mass Meeting of the Republican Party of Henry County

As Chairman of the Henry County Committee of the Republican Party, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended by the Committee, I, Donald K. Lawson do hereby issue this Call for a Mass Meeting to be held at the Henry County Administration Building, 3300 Kings Mountain Road, Martinsville, Va., on Monday, March 8, 2010 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Credentials opens at 6:00 p.m. Photo ID required on request.

The purposes of the mass meeting are:

1. To elect Unit Chairman and unit committee members as a whole

2. Electing up to 145 Delegates and an equal number of Alternates to the Republican Party of Virginia 5^th Congressional District Convention to be held in Hampden Sydney College, Johns Auditorium, Hampden Sydney, Virginia on May 1, 2010 at 11:00 am for the purposes of nominating a District Chairman. Each unit is entitled to one (1) Delegate Vote per 500 Republican votes for Governor and President at their last election, so that Henry County is entitled to 29 Delegate Votes

3. Electing up to 75 Delegates and an equal number of Alternates to the Republican Party of Virginia 9^th Congressional District Convention to be held in Fort Chiswell High School, #1 Pioneer Trail, Max Meadows, Virginia, 24630 on May 22, 2010 at 10:00 am for the purposes of nominating a candidate for Congress and a District Chairman. Each unit is entitled to one (1) Delegate Vote per 500 Republican votes for Governor and President at their last election, so that Henry County is entitled to 15 Delegate Votes

4. For the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the meeting.

Qualifications for Participation

All legal and qualified voters under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.

In addition to the foregoing, to be in accord with the principles of the Republican Party, unless otherwise stipulated by the appropriate Official Committee, a person otherwise qualified hereunder shall not have participated in Virginia in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party after March 1, 2004, or in the last five years, whichever is more recent.

A single exception to the above paragraph shall be approved for a voter that renounces affiliation with any other party in writing, and who expresses in writing that he/she is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and intends, at the time of the writing, to support the nominees of the Republican Party in the future. Any voter that utilizes the foregoing exception, and thereafter participates in the nomination process of a party other than the Republican Party, shall not have the benefit of this exception thereafter.

A person who has made application for registration and meets all other requirements of the Qualifications for Participation, but whose name does not appear on the local registration books solely because of the books having been closed in connection with a local election, will nevertheless be deemed a legal and qualified voter.

Registration Fees

There is a Ten Dollar ($10.00) registration fee required for the Mass Meeting for each candidate to be elected to unit committee. There is a Ten Dollar ($10.00) registration fee required for each delegate and alternated to attend Fifth District Convention.

There is a voluntary fee of $ 5.00 to attend the Ninth District Convention of the Republican Party of Virginia.

Pre-filing Requirements

Candidates for election as Unit Chairman, Members of Henry County Unit Committee, delegate or alternate must file using the Official pre-filing form and pay the appropriate mass meeting registration fee as required for each, Registration fee for Chairman $ 100.00, Registration fee for Mass Meeting $ 10.00 required, Registration fee for Fifth District Convention $ 10.00 required and for Ninth District Convention a $ 5.00 voluntary fee. All pre-filings forms and fees must be received not later than 4 p.m. on March 2, 2010 (postmark does not govern), by Donald K. Watkins, do hereby issue this Call for a District Convention to be held at Hampden Sydney College, or its alternate site, starting at 11:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on Saturday, May 1, 2010, for the following purposes:

Electing a District Chairman of the Republican Party; and for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the convention.
