2009 State Convention

We will officially nominate our 2009 candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor, and Attorney General at the 2009 State Convention (click here for Official Call).

In order to attend and vote at this convention, you must be elected a delegate to the state convention.

Elected?

That's right. But don't worry; you don't need to try that hard.

Generally, every local Republican committee has more slots for state convention delegates than are people interested in attending as delegates. So, basically, if you sign up, you'll be elected.

To be a state convention delegate, you should plan to attend your local area convention or mass meeting. We've listed below all of the conventions and mass meetings that we're aware of. If your local area is not mentioned, contact your local party (find out who you need to contact by clicking here) and ask when the local conventions or mass meeting will be held and how you can sign up.

Often, attendance at the convention or mass meeting is not required if you file as a delegate to the state convention prior to the deadline. Speak to your local committee chairman for more details.

  • Accomack County:There are no pre-filing requirements for the Mass Meeting to be held at the Accomack County Administrative Building Board Chambers, registration starting at 7:00 pm and Mass meeting starting at 7:15 pm.

  • Augusta County: No pre-filing is necessary. Registration for the Mass Meeting on March 19th will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end at 7:00 p.m. All persons in line by 7:00 p.m. will be allowed to register for the Mass Meeting. There will be a voluntary registration fee of $5.00 requested of each voter at the mass meeting with checks payable to the Augusta County Republican Committee. There is a voluntary registration fee of $35 for the State Convention. Voluntary fees are requested to be paid at the time of filing for election as a Delegate for each respective convention.

  • Bristol City: There are no filing requirements for the Mass Meeting to be held at 497 Cumberland Street, Bristol, VA 24201 starting at 7:00 PM local time on 16 March, 2009.

  •  Brunswick County: There are no pre-filing requirements. The mass meeting will be held on March 10th in the Lawrenceville Town Office Municipal Building, 400 N. Main Street, Lawrenceville, Virginia, starting at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 (please use the rear entrance to the building on Tobacco Street).

  • Buchanan County: There are no pre-filing requirements or any required filing fee. The Mass Meeting is on March 17th. You do not need to be present at the mass meeting to sign-up as a delegate; however, your full name, mailing address, phone number, and email address (if applicable) must be provided at the mass meeting in order to be considered registered as a delegate or alternate.

  • Carroll County: There are no pre-filing requirements for the Mass Meeting to be held at The Carroll County Governmental Center, Circuit Courtroom, Second Floor, Building A, starting at 6:30 P.M. local time on March 23, 2009.

  • Danville City: Registration for the Mass Meeting will begin at 6:00 PM and end at 7:00 PM. Tuesday, March 17, 2009 At Mary's Diner, 1201 Piney Forest Drive, Danville, registration starting at 6:00 pm and the meeting starting at 7:00 pm local time.

  • Dickenson County: There will be a voluntary $5.00 registration fee to participate in this mass meeting on March 9th. Should weather conditions be bad on March 9th, 2009, the Mass Meeting will be held on March 16th, 2009. No other notices will be published.

  • Emporia-Greensville: There are no pre-filing requirements. The Mass Meeting will be held at the Emporia Municipal Building, 201 South Main St., Emporia, Va., 23847, starting at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009.

  • Essex County: There are no pre-filing requirements for the Mass Meeting to be held at the Essex County Public Library, starting at 7:00pm local time on Monday, March 30, 2009.

  • Galax City: There are no pre-filing requirements for the Mass Meeting, to be held at the Galax Public Library 610, West Stuart Drive, Galax, Virginia, on Thursday, March 26, 2009.

  • Giles County: There are no pre-filing requirements. The Mass Meeting will be held at the Giles County Court House, starting at 7:00pm local time on March 12.

  • Grayson County: There are no pre-filing requirements. The mass meeting will be held on March 5th.

  • Highland County: There are no pre-filing requirements. The Mass Meeting will be held at the Monterey fire house, starting at 10:00 AM local time on Saturday March 28, 2009.

  • Lancaster County: Registration for the Mass Meeting begins at 6:00 PM. There will be no registration fee to participate in this Mass Meeting, but a voluntary contribution of $5 is requested. No fee is required to attend the 99th Legislative District Convention, but a voluntary contribution of $10 is requested. No fee is required for the Republican State Convention, but a voluntary contribution of $35 is requested.

  • Lee County: There are no pre-filing requirements. You do not need to be present at the mass meeting to sign-up as a delegate; however, your full name, mailing address, phone number, and email address (if applicable) must be provided at the mass meeting in order to be considered registered as a delegate or alternate. A voluntary fee of $5.00 is requested of each candidate submitting for election as a delegate. A voluntary fee of $35.00 is requested of each Delegate and Alternate to the State Republican Convention.

  • Louisa County: There are no pre-filing requirements. The Mass Meeting will be held at the Extension Service Meeting Room, Second Floor, Louisa County Office Building, 1 Woolfolk Ave., Louisa, VA, starting at 7:00 p.m. local time on Monday, March 23, 2009. There will be a voluntary registration fee of $5.00 requested of participants in this mass meeting, to help defray advertising and other costs incident thereto. Members of the Louisa County Republican Committee who have paid their dues of $25 for calendar year 2009 will be deemed to have thereby paid this voluntary registration fee.

  • King & Queen County: The mass meeting is on Tuesday, March 3rd.  There are no pre-filing requirements. There will be a voluntary registration fee of 35.00 for the State Convention. Voluntary fees are requested to be paid at the time of filing for the election as a Delegate for the convention, payable to the King and Queen County Committee.

  • King William County: There are no pre-filing requirements for the Mass Meeting to be held at King William Board of Supervisor Chambers, 180 Horse Landing Road, King William VA, starting at 7:00 pm local time on March 26th, 2009.

  • Mathews County: There are no pre-filing requirements for this meeting on March 19th. Candidates for the election or nomination at said mass meeting may pre file in writing or verbally by contacting Michael Lowe, 346 Todds Creek Lane, Mathews, Virginia, 23109 or call 804/815-2714 or email resrvi02@verizon.net. Registration for the meeting will start at 7PM on the night of the meeting.

  • Middlesex County: There are no pre-filing requirements. The Mass Meeting will be held at Cook's Corner Business Complex, 2911 General Puller Highway, starting at 7:00 PM local time on March 24, 2009.

  • Northampton County: Mass Meeting to be held at Little Italy Restaurant, 10227 Rogers Dr., Nassawadox, VA 23413 starting at 7:00 pm. On Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Voters may be required to produce personal identification such as a valid driver's license or voter's registration card. Registration for the Mass Meeting shall begin at 6:30pm and will end at 7:10pm. There will be no registration for the Mass Meeting. There is a voluntary registration fee of $35 for the State Convention.

  • Northumberland County: There are no pre-filing requirements for the Mass Meeting to be held at the Northumberland Public Library, 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, Virginia at 7 p.m. local time on March 5.

  • Norton City: There are no pre-filing requirements. You do not need to be present at the mass meeting to sign up as a delegate; however, your full name, mailing address, phone number and email address (if applicable) must be provided at the mass meeting in order to be considered as a delegate or alternate. The Mass Meeting will be held at City Hall, Norton, VA, starting at 7:00 PM local time on March 19, 2009.

  • Nottoway County: There are no pre-filing requirements for the Mass Meeting to be held at the Crewe Library, 400 Tyler St. in Crewe, starting at 7:00 pm. local time on Thursday, March 19, 2009.

  • Page County: There are no pre-filing requirements for the Mass Meeting to be held at the Page County Courthouse at 6:30 local time on March 19, 2009.

  • Patrick County: There are no pre-filing requirements. The Mass Meeting will be held at the Patrick County Branch Library conference room, 116 West Blue Ridge Street, Stuart, VA, starting at 7:00 PM local time on March 10, 2009.

  • Portsmouth City: There are no pre-filing requirements.  The Portsmouth Mass Meeting will be held at The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge, 417 County Street, Portsmouth, VA 23704 starting at 7:00 PM local time on March 17, 2009.

  • Radford City: There are no pre-filing requirements for the Mass Meeting to be held at the Radford City Municipal Building, 619 Second Street, Radford, VA 24141, starting at 7:00 p.m. local time on March 17, 2009.

  • Richmond County: Registration for the Mass Meeting begins at 6:30 PM. There will be no registration fee to participate in this Mass Meeting, but a voluntary contribution of $5 is requested. No fee is required to attend the 99th Legislative District Convention, but a voluntary contribution of $10 is requested. No fee is required for the Republican State Convention, but a voluntary contribution of $35 is requested.

  • Russell County: There are no pre-filing requirements to attend this mass meeting. The Mass Meeting will be held at Lebanon Middle School, Main Street, Lebanon, Virginia, starting at 10:00 a.m. local time on March 28, 2009.

  • Salem County: There are no pre-filing requirements.  The mass meeting is on March 10th. Registration for the Mass Meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end at 6:15 p.m. All persons in line by 6:15 p.m. will be allowed to register for the Mass Meeting. There will be a voluntary registration fee of $5.00 requested of each voter at the mass meeting. There is a voluntary registration fee of $35 for the State Convention. Voluntary fees are requested to be paid at the time of filing for election as a Delegate for each respective convention, payable to the Salem Republican Committee.

  • Scott County: There are no pre-filing requirements for the Mass Meeting to be held at the Scott County Courthouse, 202 West Jackson Street, Gate City, Virginia, 24251 starting at 6:00 p.m. local time on March 24, 2009

  • Smyth County: There will be no pre-filing requirements for individuals seeking election as a Delegate or Alternate to the RPV Convention. Those desiring to be elected shall attend the Mass Meeting to be held on March 23rd.

  • Staunton City: There are no pre-filing requirements for the mass meeting to be held at Staunton City Council Chambers, 116 W. Beverley St., Staunton, at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2009.

  •  Suffolk County: There are no pre-file requirements. The mass meeting will be held on March 5th. A voluntary fee of $10.00 is requested from each Delegate to help defray cost of Mass Meeting.

  • Surry County: There are not pre-filing requirements. The Mass Meeting will be held at the Colonial Farmhouse Restaurant and Tavern at 612 Colonial Trail East, Surry, Virginia, 23883. Registration will start at 6:00 PM and the Mass Meeting will start at 6:30 PM local time on Thursday, March 26th.

  • Sussex County: There are no pre-filing requirements for the Mass Meeting to be held at Conference Room, Wakefield Airport, 10163 General Mahone Hwy, Wakefield, VA 23888, registration starting at 7:00 PM and the mass meeting starting at 7:30 PM local time on April 1, 2009.

  • Wise County: There are no Pre-Filing requirements to participate in this mass meeting in the Wise County Courthouse in Wise, Virginia in the General District Courtroom on Tuesday March 3, 2009, at 7:00PM.

  •  Wythe County: There will be no Pre-filing requirement to participate in the mass meeting. Those seeking to participate in the mass meeting shall register at the meeting on March 24, 2009, from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Pre-filing for Candidates for Delegates/Alternates to the State Convention is optional but not required. A "Declaration of Intention To Seek Nomination for Delegate/Alternate form" shall be submitted by each Candidate for Delegates or Alternates to the State Convention. Forms will be available at the Mass Meeting, or from Aubrey O'Quinn, Chairman, Wythe County Republican Committee, 614 Rickey Road, Max Meadows, Va, Telephone 1-276-637-6114, email shamrock@naxs.com, or downloaded from the Committee Website (www.wythecountyrepublicans.org). Filing Deadline: January 23

  • Alexandria: The Alexandria Republican City Committee does not require people interested in being delegates to the state convention to attend the local canvass. Thus, any registered voter in the City of Alexandria who is in accord with the principles of the Republican Party may file as a state convention delegate.

    To file/apply, declare your candidacy for state convention delegate in writing return to the address listed on the official Call, no later than 7pm on January 23, 2009 (postmarks are acceptable).

Filing Deadline: January 30

  • Henry County: There will b e a Voluntary Registration Fee of $10.00 charged to attend the Mass Meeting of the Republican Party of Henry County for candidates seeking to be Delegates or Alternates. Persons wanting to be a delegate or alternate must pre-file with the Chairman of Henry County Republican Committee by 4:00 p.m. deadline, January 30, 2009 at: P.O. Box 144, Martinsville, Virginia 24114, or in person at 1601 Virginia Avenue, Martinsville, VA.

    The correct fee must be included with Official Pre-filing form completed. Must Present Photo ID upon attending Mass Meeting.

  • Waynesboro: Waynesboro will not have a Mass Meeting as they did not meet their pre-file requirements.  Candidates for election as State Convention Delegates at said Mass Meeting shall file a written statement by mail or in person, to Christopher Darden, 553 Chestnut Avenue, Waynesboro, Virginia 22980, which must be received no later than Friday, 20 February 2009, at 5 p.m. A pre-filing form can be obtained by contacting Christopher Darden by phone, 434-566-3651, or email, waynesborogop@gmail.com . Where circumstances warrant, such filing must include the disaffiliation statement noted above and as described in Article I, Section A of the Plan of Organization of the Republican Party of Virginia.

  • Hampton City: Candidates for the election as a delegate or alternate delegate at said mass meeting shall file a written statement using an Official Notice of Delegate/Alternate Candidacy Form transmitted via mail, postmarks shall govern, or in person, to Chairman Kyle P.   • Roanoke City: Delegates may pre-file up to the meeting time of 7:00pm on February 24, 2009.  To pre-file prior to February 15, 2009 you can either send the pre-file form to Adam Boitnott 3929 Three Chop Lane Roanoke, VA 24014 or via e-mail at aboitnott@cox.net. 

    After February 15, 2009 please e-mail the form to aboitnott@cox.net or bring the form to the meeting.  You do not need to be present to be voted on as a delegate.   Pre-file forms can be found on www.roanokerepublicans.org or obtained during the registration period prior to the meeting from 6pm-7pm on February 24, 2009.

  • Fluvanna County: Candidates for the election as a delegate or alternate delegate at said mass meeting shall file a written statement by mail or in person, to Douglas Johnson, Chairman, Fluvanna Republican Committee, 571 Long Acre Road, Palmyra, VA 22963, which must be received not later than 5:00 PM on February 27, 2009.

  • King George: All candidates for 2009 State Convention Delegate and/or 99th House District Convention Delegate are required to pre-file their intentions by completely and properly submitting the Delegate Pre-Registration Form for the King George March 2009 Mass Meeting indicating the Delegate position(s) being sought by mail, to the King George Republican Committee, Post Office Box 221, King George, VA 22485, which MUST be received not later than 5:00pm local time Friday, February 27, 2009. Post-marks do not govern.   • Poquoson: Poquoson will not have a Mass Meeting as they did not meet their pre-file requirements.Candidates for election as state convention delegates/alternates at said mass meeting shall pre-file using a delegate pre-file form by mail or in person, to John Anderson, 15 Wainwright Dr., Poquoson VA 23662 which must be received not later than February 28, 2009 @ 5 PM. Pre-file forms may be obtained from John Anderson, Chairman, by contacting him at 757-593-2006 or Gregg Czerniak, Vice-Chairman, at 757-604-1101. Applicants need NOT attend the Mass Meeting on March 14, 2009 to be elected a delegate and/or alternate delegate to the Virginia Republican State Convention.

  • Chesterfield County: Candidates for election as a Delegate or Alternate Delegate at said canvass must file a written statement of candidacy, on an official prefiling form, with Donald C. Williams, 12107 Gordon School Road, Richmond, Virginia 23236. Prefiling forms may be obtained at www.chesterfieldgop.com or www.rpv.org. Completed forms must be received, by mail or in person, at the above address not later than 8:00 pm on Monday, March 2, 2009. Postmarks shall not govern. If not more than the number of persons to be elected shall file as a candidate for Delegate or Alternate Delegate, then such properly filed persons shall be deemed elected, and no canvass will be held.

  • Virginia Beach: Each candidate for Convention delegate must complete and submit the official Republican Party of Virginia Beach filing form by the filing deadline. Filing forms may be obtained online at www.vabeachrepublicans.com, at the Republican Party of Virginia Beach, VA 23452), or upon request to the Republican Party of Virginia Beach (phone 757-486-2382) or by e-mail at cindyrhodes@cox.net. Completed forms may be submitted to the Republican Party of Virginia Beach headquarters either by U.S. mail or hand-delivered, marked to the attention of Michelle Hitchcock, Nominations Chair, 2955 Virginia Beach Boulevard, Virginia Beach, VA 23452. Filing Deadline: March 5

  • Arlington County: Each candidate for Convention delegate must complete and submit the official Arlington filing form by the filing deadline. Filing forms may be obtained online at www.ArlingtonGOP.org , or at ACRC headquarters (405 S. Glebe Rd., Arlington, VA 22204), or or upon request to ACRC (phone 703-685-2488 or by email at info@ArlingtonGOP.org). Completed forms may be submitted to ACRC headquarters either by U.S. mail or hand-delivered, marked to the attention of the Nominations Committee. No submissions by fax will be accepted.  Forms must be received at ACRC headquarters not later than 9 pm on Thursday, March 5, 2009, or postmarked not later than 12 midnight on Thursday, March 5, 2009.

  • Montgomery County: Each person who wishes to serve as a delegate or alternate delegate to the Republican Party of Virginia State Convention shall file a Delegate Filing Form, provided by the Montgomery County Unit Committee. The form may be obtained on the Montgomery County Republican web site at www.montvagop.org or by contacting Sherry Burke at 382-1452. The Delegate Filing Form must be delivered by mail or in person to: Sherry Burke, 3275 Mudpike Rd., Christiansburg, VA 24073. If delivered by mail, the form must be postmarked by March 5, 2009. If delivered in person, the form must be received by Sherry Burke by 5:00 p.m. on March 5, 2009.
    If no more than 555 persons properly file to serve as delegates to the State Convention, then all persons who have properly filed will be declared delegates and the Montgomery County Republican mass meeting scheduled for March 12, 2009 will be cancelled.

  • Pittsylvania County: Forms must be received and in hand not later than Noon March 5, 2009.
    Postmarks shall not govern. If no more than 230 candidates file for Delegate, the mass
    meeting will be cancelled and all elegible candidates who have filed will be elected

  • Bedford City/County:  Candidates for the election as a delegate or alternate delegate at said mass meeting shall file a written statement to include name, address, phone number, and email (if applicable) by mail or in person, to Kevin Corwin, Chairman, Republican Party of Bedford, P.O. Box 111, Bedford, Virginia, 24523, or via e-mail to kac1108@yahoo.com which must be post marked not later than March 27, 2009. If no more than the maximum number of Delegates and Alternate Delegates that can be elected at the Mass Meeting file as candidates, all properly filed candidates shall be deemed elected and no Mass Meeting held.
