OFFICIAL CALL

Alexandria Republican Canvass

As Chairman of the Alexandria Republican City Committee of the Republican Party of Virginia, and pursuant to the Plan of Organization and as recommended and directed by the Committee, I, Chris Marston, do hereby issue this call for a Party Canvass to be held at Minnie Howard School, 3801 W Braddock Rd, from 10 am to 2 pm local time on February 3 for the purposes of:

(a) nominating Republican candidates for the offices of Mayor and City Council Member to be voted for in the General election on May 5, 2009, and

(b) electing up to 565 Delegates and an equal number of Alternates to the State Convention to be held on May 29-30, 2009, at the Richmond Convention Center, in the City of Richmond, or its alternate site, beginning at 2 pm local time on Friday, May 29, 2009, for the following purposes:

(i) Nominating Republican candidates for the offices of Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General, and

(ii) for the transaction of such other business as may properly come before the convention.

Representation shall be based on a percentage of the total number of Republican votes cast in each county and city in the last gubernatorial and presidential election combined. Each unit is allowed one (1) Delegate Vote for each two hundred and fifty (250) Republican votes cast or major portion thereof. Each unit shall be entitled to a least one (1) Delegate Vote.

Qualifications for Participation

All legal and qualified voters of the City of Alexandria under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, regardless of race, religion, national origin or sex, who are in accord with the principles of the Republican Party and who, if requested, express in open meeting either orally or in writing as may be required, their intent to support all of its nominees for public office in the ensuing election, may participate as members of the Republican Party of Virginia in its mass meetings, party canvasses, conventions or primaries encompassing their respective election districts.

Filing Requirements

Candidates for the Republican nomination for Mayor shall file a declaration of candidacy, a petition with at least 100 signatures, and a non-refundable filing fee of $500.

Candidates for the Republican nomination for City Council shall file a declaration of candidacy, a petition with at least 50 signatures, and a non-refundable filing fee of $250.

Candidates for Delegate to the State Convention shall file a declaration of candidacy and may pay a voluntary fee of $50.

All declarations, petitions, and fees must be filed by mail, postmarked no later than January 23, or delivered in person by 7:00 pm local time on January 23. Mail should be addressed to ARCC, PO Box 245, Alexandria VA 22313-0245. In-person delivery may be made to Chris Marston, 110 Shooters Ct, Alexandria. Filing forms may be obtained at the ARCC website, www.AlexGOP.org, or by calling the ARCC at 703-823-1801.

If no more than 565 candidates file for Delegate to the State Convention, those filing will be declared elected and the office of Delegate to the State Convention will not appear on the party canvass ballot.

Registration Fee

There will be no registration fee to participate in this canvass.
